DIRECT ADMISSION INTO THE UNIVERSITY THROUGH IJMBE

You can secure direct admission, without JAMB/UTME into any university of choice through IJMBE programme. IJMBE Certificate is equivalent to OND, NCE, HSC and Cambridge A' Level certificates. Thus, a successful candidate can use the certificate to secure admission into 200 levels in any university in Nigeria or Abroad.

WHAT IS IJMBE?

The Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) is an advanced level educational programme that qualifies a candidate to secure admission into 200 levels in any of Nigerian and Foreign Universities via Direct Entry. IJMBE was established in 1976 by the Interim Common Services Agency (ICSA) through the government of the Old Northern Region of Nigeria. The IJMBE replaced the Higher School Certificate Examination (HSCE). ABU, Zaria, is the National Head Quarters for the IJMBE.

WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME?

The A' level IJMBE programmes run for a period of 8-10 months (2 semesters). Final examination comes up in December/February. A candidate shall register for 3 A' level subjects, out of which the candidate is expected to obtain a minimum of 5-8 points out of a total of 15 points to qualify for university admission into 200 level.

WHAT ARE THE AVAILABLE UNIVERSITY COURSES?

The A' Level programme (IJMBE) is available for all courses which a student intends to study in the university. Thus, you can use the A' level result to study all courses in Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAMME?

  • The result is acceptable in almost all Universities
  • The programme is available for all University courses
  • The result gives you direct admission into 200 level in the University
  • You don't have to write JAMB/UTME exam
  • IJMBE is a better programme than JAMB or Remedial programme
  • JAMB/Remedial gives you admission into 100 level, but IJMBE gives you admission into 200 level
  • JAMB/Remedial result is useful for one year only, but IJMBE result has no expiry date. Thus, a candidate can use the result for many years like WAEC result
  • Once you are admitted for this programme, it is like you are in your 100 level because when you finish the programme, you will enter into 200 level in the University.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR THE PROGRAMME?

  • Students seeking admission into any university
  • Students who fail JAMB/Post JAMB exam
  • Students who passed JAMB/Post JAMB exam but are unable to gain admission
  • Students who did not sit for JAMB/UTME exam at all
  • Students with deficiency in English or Mathematics
  • Students who just graduated from S.S.S. 3
  • Students awaiting results

WHAT IF I DID NOT WRITE JAMB/UTME EXAM?

You do not need to write JAMB exam if you enroll for the A' level programme. Also, JAMB exam is not a prerequisite for the A' level programme. So, if you do not sit for JAMB exam, IJMBE is the best programme for you.

WHAT IF I FAIL JAMB/POST JAMB EXAM?

That you failed JAMB/Post JAMB exam is not the end of the road for you. You can win back the wasted time by registering for IJMBE programme. At the end of your successful completion of the programme, you will secure direct admission into 200 level in the university. So, even if you fail JAMB exam, you have not lost yet, if you can enroll for the programme.

WHAT IF I JUST GRADUATED FROM SECONDARY SCHOOL?

The A' level IJMBE programme is best suited for secondary school graduates. The programmme will help eliminate the necessary waiting time in sitting for JAMB exam every year. More so, since the secondary school students are fresh graduates, they stand the chance of performing brilliantly and benefitting from the programme.

WHAT IF I AM AWAITING RESULT?

Awaiting result students can also apply for the A' level programme. In case of deficiency in any of the O' level subjects, we have provisions for enrolling and assisting the students to remedy such deficiency before the final examination.

CAN I PAY THE SCHOOL FEES ON INSTALLMENT?

Yes, there is opportunity for candidates to pay the school fees for about two installments at not more than 3 months interval.

WHAT ARE THE A' LEVEL SUBJECT COMBINATIONS?

Your A' level subject combination depends on your O' level result and the intended course of study in university. Consult us for more explanation on this.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates for the A' level programme must have credits in 5 relevant O' level subjects at not more than two sittings (including Mathematics and English Language). Students awaiting results can also apply.
  • Candidates shall offer three (3) main subjects at Advanced Level depending on the intended course of study in the university.
  • Candidates should come with 8 passports on their resumption for the programme
